Dependence of CWSI-Based Plant Water Stress Estimation with Diurnal Acquisition Times in a Nectarine Orchard

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing has become a readily usable tool for agricultural water management with high temporal and spatial resolutions. UAV-borne thermography can monitor crop status near real-time, which enables precise irrigation scheduling based on an accurate decision-making strategy. The stress index (CWSI) is widely adopted indicator of plant practices; however, dependence its efficacy data acquisition time during the daytime yet to be investigated rigorously. In this paper, captured by series UAV campaigns at different times day (9h, 12h 15h) in nectarine orchard were analyzed examine diurnal behavior represented CWSI against measured physiological parameters. values derived using probability modelling, named ‘Adaptive CWSI’, proposed our earlier research. parameters, such as stem potential (ψstem) stomatal conductance (gs), plants validation concurrently flights under regimes (0, 20, 40 100 % ETc). Estimated CWSIs compared plant-based parameters day. Results showed strong relationship between ψstem measurements midday (12 h) coefficient determination (R2 = 0.83). Diurnal significant R2 gs over levels three 0.92 (9h), 0.77 (12h) 0.86 (15h), respectively. adaptive method used robust capability estimate even small range changes presented morning. work indicate that collected mid-morning mid-afternoon map consistent efficacy. This important implications extending time-window (and subsequent areal coverage) mapping beyond midday.
